Snowshoe program

Program delivery

Development of a new expedition activity from initial concept through equipment, procedures, risk controls, staff training, pilot delivery and operational rollout.

Up to 13 expedition staff trained before wider rollout

Swan Hellenic polar expedition activity

The requirement

Turn a good idea into a deliverable operation.

Introducing a new expedition activity requires more than selecting equipment and taking guests into the field. The activity must work within the vessel’s existing expedition operation, safety framework, staffing model, guest experience and environmental conditions.

The requirement was to create a snowshoe program that expedition staff could deliver consistently and independently, supported by appropriate equipment, procedures, risk controls, briefings and practical training.

Delivery scope

Activity design

Define the activity, guest journey and operating model.

Equipment

Select, source and configure practical field equipment.

Procedures

Create SOPs, controls, briefings and operational documentation.

Training

Train expedition staff through practical delivery and feedback.

Pilot delivery

Validate the system in operation before wider rollout.

Handover

Leave the operating team ready to deliver independently.

From concept to independent delivery.

Independent delivery

Wider rollout

The work moved through a structured delivery process, combining practical field knowledge with the systems needed for safe and repeatable operation.

Program development

Build the system around the activity.

Operational design

Integrate equipment, people, procedures, guest experience and field conditions into one practical delivery model.

Transferable training

Create workflows and practical instruction that allow the program to move from its designer to the expedition team.

Controlled implementation

Use pilot delivery and operational feedback to validate and refine the system before wider rollout.

What this demonstrates

A program is delivered when the team can run it.

Design for the operation

New activities must fit existing staff, vessel, equipment and operating constraints rather than exist as standalone concepts.

Document the system

Procedures, controls and briefings create consistency and reduce dependence on individual knowledge.

Build independent capability

Training and pilot delivery should leave the operating team capable of delivering the program without ongoing reliance on its designer.

Delivery outcome

Piloted. Trained. Operational.

The program progressed from concept through equipment selection, SOP development, risk controls, guest briefings, staff training and pilot delivery. Up to 13 expedition staff were trained, enabling the pilot ship’s expedition team to deliver the program independently before wider rollout.
